Reading - Continuing to learn and practice phonograms. Learning and practicing spelling patterns. Understanding the different types of sentences - Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative and Exclamatory.
Literature - Continuing to read Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp - discussing characters, situations, making predictions and vocabulary.
Geography - after learning about continents, oceans, and elements of a map we are now studying the major rivers of the world by continent.
Science - we are wrapping up vertebrates this week by discussing the vertebrate classes (Reptiles, Fish, Amphibians, Birds, and Mammals) and their traits. We will have a quiz on Vertebrates this Thursday 9/28. At the end of next week we will have a test on vertebrates and invertebrates.
Math - we are beginning our addition and subtraction unit. I have begun assigning multiplication facts for homework, however, because the multiplication unit following this one starts off immediately with multiplication strategies and not with learning the facts. Students need to go into that unit already feeling confident with the majority of their basic multiplication facts 0-10. This week students should be practicing their twos facts. We discussed the rules for multiplying by 1 and 0 as well.
*This week we will create leveled math groups for third grade based on student's class performance so far this school year on both daily class assignments and assessments. These groups were created to better meet the needs of our students to build their confidence and success in math. Some students from our classroom will travel across the hall to Mrs. Scherer for Math while some of Mrs. Scherer's students will travel to our classroom. This switch will only be for our Math period. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
